Top of the Rock Observation Deck

The Top of the Rock Observation Deck was opened to the public in the year 1933. It was built in a way to bear a resemblance to the deck of an ocean liner. This deck is located on top of the GE building which forms the showpiece of Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, New York City.

This building was made based on a popular international design movement which was in effect from 1925 to the 1940's known as Art Deco and was amongst the classiest and glamorous buildings of that time.

The deck got closed to the public in 1986 and re-opened after a 75 million dollar refurbishment on November 1, 2005. The Top of the Rock Observation Deck offers visitors a six level observatory on the top of this massive skyscraper.

The upper decks stand at 850 feet above the street and gives visitors a bird's eye vision of the skyline of the city, including a prominent view of the Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building and Central Park.

NBC studios are also located in the same building as the Top of the Rock Observation Deck. This draws it fare share of visitors as well. The security guards atop the deck are also very useful when it comes to helping visitors identify the various landmarks across the city. This deck as well as the entire building is a must see for tourists on travel in New York City.
