Times Square
Travel New York City would mean visiting the hub of all activities in New York City, the Times Square. Times Square stretches quite a bit both east to west and then again north to south making it "the" place to visit in Midtown Manhattan.
It was earlier known as Long Acre Square named so by the British. The name was officially changed to Times Square after the New York Times building came up in the premises. The name change happened on 8th of April, 1904.
The New York Times shifted office in 1913 and the building was renamed the Allied Chemical Building and is now known as the One Times Square. The place actually symbolises New York City with all its hustle and bustle. The digital hoarding and advertisements are the ones that truly define the spirit of the place.

Travel New York without seeing the Times Square would mean not having seen anything at all. The LED display and the neon lights have been synonymous with the Times Square. December 2008 saw the first billboard on Times Square which was eco-friendly as it used solar and wind energy for lighting up.
Restaurants, hotels and other business establishments have all made Times Square their address. The year 1992 saw the formation of the Times Square Alliance which works towards the betterment of the place.
