St. Patrick's Cathedral
Saint Patrick's Cathedral as a beautifully decorated Neo-Gothic-style Catholic cathedral church in US is one of the prime attractions of the city.
Located on the east side of Fifth Avenue, this cathedral was first used as a site for a school meant for young Roman Catholic men. In 1814 however, the diocese handed over the property to Dom Augustin LeStrange.
The construction of the cathedral took place later, when in 1853, Archbishop John Joseph Hughes declared his aim to erect a new cathedral in place of the Old Saint Patrick's Cathedral located in downtown Manhattan.
This new cathedral was designed by James Renwick, Jr. and work begun in 1858. It stopped during Civil War and resumed in 1865 and was finally completed in 1878. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. During your travel to New York City you can visit this cathedral and explore its beauty.
