Rockefeller Centre

The Rockefeller Centre is a landmark of New York City built by the Rockefeller family. It is a commercial complex with 19 buildings and spanning an area of 22 acres. It lies between the 48th and 51st street to be exact, in New York City.

The story behind the centre is quite interesting with John D. Rockfeller Jr having leased the land from Columbia University and financing the entire project alone. The 14 buildings construction started in May, 1930 and in a span of 9 years the entire project was completed. On 1st November 1939 the last rivet was driven in by John D. Rockfeller himself.

The Rockfeller Centre is said to be the biggest ever construction project taken up by a individual in modern times. The Rockefeller Centre has a lot of attractions in place for visitors. The complex has offices of some of the best and well known companies. The outdoor cafe is a major attraction. Come winter and the place changes into an ice skating rink with many flocking to the place.
