New York Public Library

New York Public Library like most other places in the city is significant in more ways than one. The library is one of the best public libraries in the world and is also the best in the United States when we talk about research material.

The library runs mainly in 2 sections one as the circulating one and another non-circulating one. The research books fall in the second category and are not lent. The New York Public Library functions under a private management. It is a non-profit corporation that is financed using both public and private funds. This library also has smaller branches in Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.

This public library actually has 89 libraries under its wings which include a library for the physically challenged and the blind. All visitors are permitted to use the libraries that fall in the purview of the New York Public Library without any charge.

The library along with its branches has over 50 million items of which the books count alone crosses 20 million. Only the British Library or the Library of Congress is able to surpass these figures.
