This center came into being at a time when the city was being regarded as chaotic and crowded and forbidding to many. In a bad run-down neighborhood, this center came up occupying 16 acres.

It comprised of a modern complex and ample parking in the underground and really amazing amenities and it offered a heaven to the music lovers - wherein they could drive in, attend a performance, have a mean and go back home without having to set foot on the sidewalk.

Many other cities tried to imitate this center once it came up but the trend once more shifted away from the self contained art complexes.

The Lincoln Center in its days cost $185 million to be built and is presently undergoing a $1.2 billion redevelopment. Even at the time of recession, where other arts organizations are cutting back and some are even going under, the Lincoln center is committed to finish its redevelopment.

A new pedestrian bridge - the plans for which have been approved would be in place by 2011, spanning the 65th street.
