This library was opened in the year 1911. It was actually established by collecting an amount of 2.1 million dollars donation from Samuel J. Tilden. The area of the Croton Reservoir was selected for creating a new library and its landmark was designed by the director of the New York Public Library, Dr. John Shaw Billings.
