Greenwich Village

When you travel to New York City, there are many attractions for you to see and enjoy. One amongst them is the Greenwich Village.

Greenwich Village refers to a residential area in the neighborhood on the side of Lower Manhattan in the city of New York. It is a beautiful region and the charm of the village is further enhanced by beautiful gardens, courtyards, low rise town houses and a serpentine layout of the streets.

The Village extends from Broadway to the Hudson and is more popularly known as the place which gave birth to the Beat Generation. Dylan Thomas, Jack Kerouac and Bob Dylan are some of the most famous residents of the area.

The literary residents list would include names like Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe and Walt Whitman. Today the Village is streaming with the New York University students who want to study these great names.

The Village is also a home to a big community of gays and lesbians.

The Christopher Street is the site of the historic clash in 1969 between gay men and the city police which marked the beginning of gay rights movements.
