Empire State Building

New York City travel would mean a trip to the formidable Empire State Building considered the tallest building in the world until 1973. It held the distinction from 1931 to 1973 with 102 floors at a height of 443.09 m.

The building gets it's name from the nickname of New York city, the Empire State. The building is a major tourist attraction and millions of people throng to the place every year. The entire building is lit up at night and it is surely a sight that is not to be missed.

The building started to be illuminated with lights since 1964. It is lit up in various colours on holidays and other special occasions. The observatory is the main attraction of the building and is open 365 days a year. It provides a 360 degree view of the entire city from it's observatory on the 86th floor.

A second observatory began functioning on the 102nd floor and was shut down in 1999 only to renew operations in 2005. This one is smaller than the 1st one and is closed if there is heavy rush of people.
