Chrysler Building
The New York City Travel Packages offer you many interesting sites which are not to be missed. Listed among one of the top has to be the Chrysler Building.
The Chrysler Building was the tallest building in the whole world till 1931 when it got surpassed by the Empire State Building. Even now, it is the tallest brick building in the world.
This beautiful piece of architecture culminates in a tapered crown made of steel. This crown supports the famous spire at the peak. When it was completed, this building overtook the Eiffel Tower as the tallest mad made structure ever. What is ironical in this is the fact that the Chrysler Building was originally planned as a small speculative office building.
Chrysler demanded the architect William van Alen for the tallest building in the world. In order to beat the other competitors, who were aiming for the same, this brilliant architect designed a 185 foot spire(56 meter) which he then had secretly delivered to the site and assembled it inside the elevator shaft and raised onto the top - in just 90 minutes.
