Get fit and save penguins at the Wildlife Conservation Society's annual Run for the World. This year's activity is set on Saturday, April 30 and is scheduled to take place along a beautiful 5K course at the Bronx Zoo. Run for the Wild is open to both runners and walkers. You cannot miss this opportunity to get in shape, connect with other zoo-goers and help saving penguins with every stride you take.

Run for the World of 2011 has a series of events. The pre-run area opens at 7 a.m. All participants can get day-of registrations, pick up t-shirt and open pledge tents in the Start Area. Run warm-up takes place at 8:15 a.m. and runners' start time is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Family Fun Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. You can also choose to walk through the zoo with your little ones. The post-fun festivities are arranged between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., including refreshments, light breakfast, live music, entertainment options and interesting children-oriented activities.

Online registration for Run for the World costs $30 for adults and children & seniors can enjoy some discounts. The entry fees include complimentary zoo entry and free parking on run day. You may also qualify for various inviting prizes depending on your personal fundraising success. Celebrate a New York Halloween tradition with Boo at the Zoo. Many tempting activities will be held on October weekends. The dates include October 2-3, 9-11, 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31. Take part in various interesting activities, like hay mazes & hayrides, pumpkin carving demonstrations, puppet shows and many others. Boo at the Zoo guarantees you a totally different Halloween experience. Let's get closer with the terrific activities.

1) Haunted Safari - Embark on a Haunted Safari Adventure to make efforts to protect a creature that needs your help, such as a tiger, vulture or grizzly bear. The journey also takes you through the creepiest critters in a rainforest swamp, a bat cave and the belly of a snake. The safari in 2011 can present you with an augmented reality 3-D experience. The Haunted Safari is set from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2) Live Music - Listen to animal-themed tunes by Join Gigi and Lend Me a Hand Band at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the Grizzly Goodies Picnic Area.

3) Hess Hay Ride - Thrilling rides that pass by Birds of Prey and beneath a canopy of beautiful fall foliage are offered from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends. Hess Hay Ride includes Halloween music and a narrated storyline. Its admission is included with Total Experience Tickets.

4) Puppet Shows with Flexitoon Puppeteers - It's great news for puppet show lovers that award-winning puppeteers Craig Marin and Olga Felgemacher will give a performance. A custom puppet show all about Bronx Zoo animals will be presented at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Asia Plaza Theater.

5) Pumpkin-carving Demonstrations - You may have never seen a grand live pumpkin-carving demonstration like this! An expert carves amazing Halloween art, using 150-pound pumpkins. The art is available from noon to 3 p.m., each Saturday starting October 9.

6) Costume Parade - When you march from Dancing Crane Plaza to the Grizzly Goodies Picnic Area, music by Gigi and the Lend Me a Hand Band, puppets and props will add more fun. Join the parade at 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and immerse in Halloween atmosphere.

- Treat Stations - Time: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

- Craft Workshops - Make your own one-of-a-kind Halloween decoration. Time: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Dancing Crane Pavilion

- Animal-themed magic Shows - Time: Noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

- Special Animal Enrichment Activities - 2 p.m.: World of Reptiles; 2:15 p.m.: Carter Giraffe Bldg; 11:15 a.m., 12:15, 1:15 2:15 & 3:15 p.m.: Bat Chats at Monkey House

Celebrate the holiday season with Holiday Glee at Bronx Zoo. The zoo is holding its first-ever SING with partnership with the Hard Rock Cafe and many other holiday activities from December 18 to December 30.

1) SING! For Wildlife Competition - Top high school groups from NYC will battle it out in this competition. Three semi-final rounds take place on December 18, 28 -29. The winning choirs from each round will compete in the finals on December 30th. All the competitions are held in Schiff Family Great Hall.

2) Hess Clydesdale Carriage Rides - On Saturdays and Sundays through December 19, you can take a festival horse-drawn wagon ride around the Astor Court from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the Zoo Center Membership desk, costing $5 per person for ages 3 and over. Zoo members only need to pay $3.

3) Ice Carving Sculpture Environment - Master ice carver Mark Crouthamel from Sculpted Ice Works, Inc. comes to Bronx Zoo during December 27 and December 30. An ice wonderland and an interactive Polar Express Train will be completed on Dancing Crane Pavilion.

4) Presents to the Animals - Zoo keepers are offering much more holiday cheer. During special enrichment sessions, many animals, such as bears, turtles and monkeys will tear into some winter treats at 2 p.m. from December 26 to December 30.
