Battery Park is a public park occupying 25 acres at the southern end of Manhattan Island of New York City. The park gets its name from a line of British cannons, which once protected the settlements behind it in the late 1600s. Battery Park has no specific physical address, but it is never difficult to locate. The park is close to the Interstate 478/Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, adjacent to State Street Viaduct. At the north end of the park is nestled Castel Clinton, the national monument. Battery Gardens, an award-winning restaurant is located at the south end of the park.
The well planned community Battery Park City is built in the northwest direction of the park. The waterfront strip stretching from the Battery Park City to Battery Park is filled with a number of bikeways, promenades and green parks such as Robert F Wagher Jr Park and South Cove Park. To the southeast tip of the park lies the South Ferry Terminal of Staten Island Ferry.
The construction of a bikeway is underway, running through the Battery Park and connecting Hudson River and East River parts of Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. Across State Street from the park is one of the most prosperous districts of New York City - Financial District, which houses a large number of business buildings and financial agencies, as well as an array of shopping malls and dining sites.

How to drive to Battery Park? Due to the key location of the park, a number of streets and roads run nearby and confine the park within a quadrangle.
- If you are coming from the north (Battery Park City), head south on West Street. Take a left and merge onto Brooklyn Battery Tunnel/Interstate 478 South towards Interstate 278. The park is found at your right.
- If you are coming from southeast (Knickerbocker Village), head west on East River Drive. Continue onto the State Street Viaduct and turn right at Brooklyn Battery Tunnel/Interstate 478 South. The park is located at your left.
- If you are coming from the east (the Financial District), head northeast and take the first left onto Broadway. Turn right at Battery Pl and stay on it until you see Sate Street Viaduct. Merge onto Sate Street Viaduct and drive straight. Take a right at Brooklyn Battery Tunnel/Interstate 478 South. Follow the signs for Battery Park which is on your right.
